Castletownroche NS is involved in an initiative with An Taisce – the Green Schools Programme. It is an environmental education programme which recognises the work that schools do to promote and achieve environmentally-friendly standards in their school. A green flag is awarded when the standards of the specific theme have been met. 

Castletownroche NS are very proud to have received three Green Flags so far.

We are currently working towards our fourth Green Flag which is awarded for Transport. 

 This theme aims to increase the number of students walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport or carpooling to school. All pupils have been given Hi vis bag covers to make sure they are seen travelling to school. 3rd to 6th class completed 6 week of cycling safety.

We recently carried out our Walkability Audit with assistance from An Taisce Representative. This was very interesting and we learned so much from doing this activity.

A trip to Inniscarra Dam!!

We have been successful in achieving our 3rd Green Flag!!!!

We raised our flag on Friday the 17th June and celebrated this along with our Sports Day. The children enjoyed the Song singing and the Ice- Cream on this very special occasion!!!
            

On the 22nd of February the whole school made a big effort to walk, park and stride, cycle or scoot to school. A representative from An Taisce came to visit and many lessons were carried throughout the day in different classes to encourage children to reduce their carbon footprint!! This was a fun and informative day for all.
